Happy Friday

image via abbytryagain

Have a wonderful and safe weekend out there! What do you have planned? Saturday is a fun day for us, we are planning to do some cross country skiing, then hit up a couple Christmas parties!

Sunday will consist of football watching  (knitting for me) then some Christmas shopping, and perhaps a movie! Its been so long since I saw a movie in the theater... Halloween actually. Paranormal Activity. Yes I took the cat to the bathroom with me in the middle of the night after that one. But I hate scary movies! It was a Halloween present for T.

Then... back to work! Next week is going to be pretty slow I am sure, half of the office is out on vacation already.

So here are some funny links I have come across... enjoy!

Paintball Guns on Bikes

Yes, this really is the topic du jour. Of MY day at least!

First of all let me express my gratitude for this lovely lovely morning today.

A bit like this image from  Westlind's flickr.

However. Last night was more like this:

As I rolled down the hills to work in my nice and dry rain coat, loving every moment of this dry morning, I contemplated the pitfalls of urban biking in the rain.

Last night as I approached a well lit intersection I stopped to be certain that the oncoming cars in the other direction were planning to come to complete stops and yield right of way. It is actually quite difficult to predict driver's reactions to bikes, but they usually fall into 2 categories: Too nice or Too mean.

The Too Nice crowd yields always, even to the point of mucking up the flow of traffic. I ride as a vehicle. I follow the rules of the road. When you reach an intersection before me, I yield. I know not all cyclists behave according to the rules, so the Too Nice crowd has adopted a patient, and defensive method. But the Too Mean people need to get a prescription to some of that medical mary jane and chill out. They treat cyclists like pests, and yielding obviously is a waste of their time.

I don't know which category the negligent driver who I encountered when I began to proceed (cautiously) through the intersection falls into, but as they drove through the intersection, ignoring the lowly biker with lights, helmet neon green raincoat, I was forced to emergency brake and stop in the middle of the intersection. I try to assume the driver didn't see me, it was quite rainy and very dark. But the woman across the street on her cell phone sitting on a porch was able to see me, and started yelling. (I didn't.) "OH MY GAWD! ARE YOU OK?" I glumly replied: "Yea... It happens."

I declined to yell obscenities because I knew the driver who hadn't even seen me wouldn't be able to hear me, all cozy in her heater-radio-gas guzzling bubble. But I did wish I had a paintball gun.

Ohhh now we are getting to the point.

DMV issued paintball guns. Maybe ones with less force (don't want to shatter any windows). Just enough to leave a big fat splat of paint on a reckless driver's car when left reeling after an incident.

Maybe a pink one for the ladies.

And blue for the mens.

Blogability

I am so torn. I now have a plethora of blogs and feel like a schizophrenic internet addict that doesn't know where to roost. The habit of posting to my old blog is so ingrained. I should just start tumbling all the cool things I find. That was the plan. But this week has been a jumble of unproductivity. Although I did finish a new hat. Which I don't have pictures of.

So, for my 2 followers... I'll figure it out. Thanks for reading!

Oh and I bought some yarn today... to make something like this:

Traveling through Time

Almost time to hop on that plane and make my way back to the misty Willamette Valley!

What a whirlwind of good food, wine, margaritas, road trips and silly silly family. My sister, Cat flew in from North Carolina Monday night, and we drove up to Tulsa, OK to see my cousin Elizabeth's new house. We ate at a delicious organic restaurant, Elote, whose signature dish was slow cooked sweet potatoes and black beans! We then drove down to Sapulpa where Elizabeth grew up to see my aunt Kathleen's new gallery, The Water Street Gallery. She had some lovely paintings featured, and some of my mom's ceramics as well.

We caravanned with the cousins down to OKC for the feast.. upon which I promptly developed a sinusy cold. Thank goodness for Sudafed.

More pics coming soon!

Loved every moment with friends and family. I am so very blessed.

A Very Portland Downtown Afternoon

Facing East on Washington Ave at Park. Cute girl with a vibrant umbrella. The leaves are so amazing right now... reds, yellows, some greens still hanging on.

A new food cart is emerging on my block! More details when I return from Thanksgiving festivites in Texas and Oklahoma.

As I was scoping out this lovely afternoon, I caught a rare sighting of a Travis-Bunny.

So I had to feed him.

Silence

Photo from Mammoth Lakes, CA during my move to Portland

Sitting, seated, eyes closed. Solitude. I began to fathom the addiction runners find to their routine. Wishing this moment could last forever, I sunk deeper within myself. The sound of my breath softened my mind. I began to dream of days spent in contemplation, slowly transitioning from morning to afternoon with grace and awareness. Living simply in the company of seekers.
Yes, this is the dream to aspire towards. The path is taken step by step, the dream will sustain the seeker.

Yoga... union. the unifying of all the I's within our ego-mind-personality. Have you ever wished you could set your mind to a difficult task and overcome all odds? Yoga is that path for me. Namaste
