hot pink

Love the adorable chunkalunka, but I really dig the styling of mama's tights! I think the last time I work my hot pink tights was New Years 2010...

Fabulous and Opinionated

As the premier of Season 3 approaches, Mad Men fever is at high pitch. Thankfully, a pair of self described "bitchy, funny gay guys" who refer to their followers as "bitter kittens" delight in obsessing over fashion, television and style.

If you want spoilers, here's where to get them. Or, rent the DVDs, and read the commentary afterward! I promise the socio-political dialogue is extremely compelling, and their relationship with the costume designer for Mad Men provides invaluable insight into the characters and their motives.

As we while away the summer doldrums, thinking of nothing other than Mad Men, Tom and Lorenzo pick up their game and dissect each lead character and their personal style.

They also post pics of fabulous celebs in fabulous clothes and say what everyone else is thinking, but would never dare say out loud! Hooray internet!

28 years young

The peony my mom sent me for my birthday last year is growing fast this spring, but sure isn't going to have any blooms like this one in time for my bday!

white-peony

This year I requested some home video DVDs from Dad. Ever the techie man in the family, always fixing grandma's VCR, he hauled around the massive video camera for family beach trips, holidays, birthdays, and regular ol' backyard shenanigans. Watching old home videos is one of my sister's and my favorite things to do when we all get together over the holidays.

Dad's Pentax was a beaut... I love the rounded edges from the photographs, and the vintage colors. There is something lacking with the digital life of our photos... I suppose with technology such as iPads and iPhones making photos available at all times, digital photos are more accessible these days. But something about received a fat package of printed memories is so unique.

Oh and did you know I love skirts? Yup. Still do.
Now where did I put that awesome straw hat?

flower power

just another day downtown

An old dress that always makes me feel happy. A new raincoat makes rain fashionable. A downtown park to hang with my best buddy, swap cookies, and admire flowers. Pretty sure this is the first day I bared these white stems of mine. Swaddled in tights, legging and pants all winter, they are quite blinding with their ivory hue. Travis told me he was adjusting the exposure to reduce their glare.

The Wednesday downtown farmer's market is only a couple weeks away! They are even adding a new one on Mondays... I'll be there before they ring the bell, picking up my weekly office munchies. When I first moved here and started working in the office, farmer market Wednesdays were, and still are, my favorite day of the week! I was amazed to discover no one else really thought much about it. World Class Farmer Market people!

There's nothing better than crates of raspberries, blueberries and blackberries awaiting you for a respite from the computer. Oh wait, picking them yourself! That's better.

spring formal

spring azaleas

Rain in the valley  = Snow on the mountain! I decided these outfit pics will suffice for my Easter celebration. I'm much more into pagan earth worship, so appropriately I will be on a mountain, bidding farewell to winter's frozen sports.

easter dress in the garden

I imagine if I were to wear this frock to a delightful Easter party, I would be surrounded by pastels and florals and frilly things. I think this dark dress brightens up perfectly with flower-pinned belt and would assert itself as the dark rose of the ball. I have a flair for drama I suppose. And dresses.

Phoebe joined me in a nonchalant gazing into space photo op.

But seriously, so many yards are like an Easter basket explosion! Tulips of all color, bright violet blooms, magenta, fuschia, yellows all popping against the fresh lime green of new growth.

I am so in love with my new necklace from Jenny!

stylee

J. Crew catalouge arrived this week... I had already seen a preview on the city sage's post "Begrudging Admission of Admiration: J. Crew" Her title is intriguing, although I do not begrudge my love for J. Crew. Sure, I could do with less expensive items, and at that point I might actually shop there. ( if you haven't realized by now, my shopping style is cheap! goodwill, thrift, target, oh yea)

{jcrew necklace}
My crafty and fabulous roommate Jenny made me a necklace to rival the one above for an early bday present! She is the best :) After seeing a similar bauble at the outlet mall marked down from over a hundred to still more than she would spend, Jenny got to work with her tools and made her own!
Picture coming soon...

However the few items I do own from J. Crew, I have had for YEARS. The kind of fabric Target has never even dreamed of. So thrift stores, outlet stores, I keep my eyes open for that label! I scored a pristine condition Banana Republic sweater last fall, and have worn it all winter.

One thing I will invest in is accessories. My skin just can't tolerate a cheap necklace. I have ordered adorable agate pendants from Old Navy, funky multiple strand necklaces from F21, and all of them rub off their fake plating and leave a residue on my skin for days! Its not the visible green kind, just a feeling that the necklace is still on, kinda burning. So I know better now.

This lady knows better too. Hello fabulous!

Etsy propelled me into the world of handcrafted, affordable jewelry, I love ordering one of a kind earrings, vintage necklaces, even thrifted boots!

Whoa... speaking of fabulousness, check out this necklace from savage salvage's shop!
Who wouldn't want something named Mermaid Farts???!!
i am dying laughing!

floral

My life is finally inching back into a normal routine... yoga after work, knitting/blogging by the fire before bed... Although I am jumping with joy about the early spring and happy flowers it brings, I am grateful for the cold fronts that blast through, so we can use up our firewood supply! Although, I am sure with all the coastal camping we are planning for this summer, it will get good use then too.

I just bought my first pair of floral tights... on the bandwagon for patterns!
Once I finally wear them out I'll take some pics to share... till then, dream of flowers!

Oh and watch this hilarious video! Then go buy me one.

fashionista friday

I finally remembered to bring my camera to work to shoot some of my new hats against this turquoise wall. Its the Portland building, which won the honor of Ugliest Building in America recently.

outfit detail

I am so inspired by fashion blogger, Tieka of Selective Potential. Her quirky, wintry style inspires my new northern wardrobe, with colors, layers, patterns and tights! She loves wearing tights, even claims they are warmer than jeans! (ha)

New Yellow Hat

Ironically, the awesome pink scarf I am wearing is from Austin, TX! That is probably why it has lasted so many years, because there is rarely an excuse to wear a huge wooly scarf in Texas. Although this week's dumping of snow sure has surprised everyone.

we love hats
Walking home after breakfast... showin off our awesome hats!
