numero 27 el corazon

Numero 27 El Corazon, originally uploaded by Jello Kitty.
When I first discovered typography as one of my loves, I knew that the clean, simple lines of Futura, Century Gothic and the like were for me.

I have since accepted the presence of the serif, and even gone so far as to utilize them in many of my designs...

But what amazed me was discovering the history of typography. That Futura and her friends were actually early 20th century fonts that broke away from the traditional serif pack. The world of design opened up to me and provided a post-collegiate education that was a self directed study in what had always been a passion for me. (My English Lit essays were probably the only ones produced in Quark!)

Vintage captures the imagination of a technology inundated society. The new moms and dads of my generation can remember a time before cell phones and internet, but their children never will. Its nice to see a movement towards neo-luddite tendencies with tactile things.

Moving away from the mind, the sedentary bodies, and leading with the heart. The blood-pumping, dynamic heart. El Corazon.

muddy buddies

Jess over at Heartthrobs & Villans has piqued a new craving for muddy-proof hiking boots!
But I already have hiking boots!
But these are so cute!
And tall...
perhaps turning 28 this year will yield new boots :)

dressy dresses

i always love drew barrymore's red carpet looks
perhaps its her attitude, that shiny light that just glows from her happy persona
she looked lovely and quite unique.
i love the next-day dress round-up of golden globes and all the different opinions!

charming nest

NEW charm necklace, originally uploaded by nestdecorating.

I promise... when the sun returns in the evening I will have so many amazing garden shots. April... I can't even begin to express how lovely things will be over here. Apple tree blossoms, I feel like I should learn to sew really really fast, buy dozens of yards of pink taffeta and wear a tutu everyday just to celebrate the amazing white blossoms my home will shower upon me. {love}

until then... admire these charming flower thingy dingies.

pheremone

Although Pantone released its 2010 color forecast, I must be still stuck in 2009 because I am on a mimosa color kick this week! I think its the return of the sun... making me giddy. What beautiful sunrises/sunsets in Portland this week. Hot pinks, deep purples... similar to my brand new hat!

This set of work titled Form and Pheremone by Christopher Marley is amazing. The most beautiful bugs arranged in the most intricate and imaginative patterns... you must check it out!

He also shows some love to fossilized friends

Ammonites are quite amazing to me.

more flowery things to brighten your day over on my tumblr!

cute as a button

buttons are the best. any size, and shape. all colors. they make a hat complete. a sweater stay snug. a sleeve fasten to block out that january wind. when I learned to make crochet flowers, my favorite ones had a perfect little button sewn into the center. i need to take some pics of these for you! stay tuned...

Ceramist Lenneke Wispelwey is also a stylist, working out of her own studio in Arnhem.

She lists a few of her favorite things... "things that are so ugly they become beautiful again"

She loves working with ceramics, but also works with other materials. She feels
her work should make people smile.
This is what she also tries to accomplish in her styling work.

Lenneke Wispelwey studied at The Arnhem Institute for the Arts, Product Design. In 2008 she graduated with a collection porcelain called "de zoete inval". One month later she started her own studio in Arnhem.

Teeny Tiny Eggs

We boiled the baby egg.
It had a yolk tinier than my pinky nail! Probably as tiny as the pinky toe nail (which as many of us know... its barely existent!)

Anywhoo I was reminded of this miniature adventure by the lovely abbytrysagain on etsy.
{her blog is lovely too!}

"I recently returned to my childhood home and started to photograph all of my Mother's collections.
This is probably her strangest one-a collection of eggs from all sorts of animals including geeses, snakes, emu and doves." link

Here is a lovely pic by my roommate, Joel, master photographer as well:

That's the tiny baby egg! We portioned it out and tasted tested... just as amazingly delicious as the large ones.

I spent some time this weekend learning the tricks and tools of the manual setting on our DSLR... took some knitting pics and still life (very low light!)

craft and love

Crafty fun! I wish I had more time to make big messes and play with colors, textures, fibers and scissors!

One day... I will have a craft room. Shelves of brightly hued yard stacked tall, mounds of bobbles and string, paper and glue everywhere!

One day... I will make so many knitted and crochet goods that I will open an etsy store!

One day... is today!

In yoga class the other night, we were instructed to finish the following sentence:

I am so grateful and happy that....

the only thought that crossed my mind was "I AM" "here"

The present is so full of potential, and for us to tap into that infinite possibility every moment is so glorious... just knowing that I am on the path brings me joy in the smallest moments of my day.

As the heartbreakingly emotional Colt McCoy said last night after the Texas loss... "I never question why things happen the way they do... I know God is in control of my life"

may your god, goddess, spirit, light shine in your life!

pretty things

Dear friends,

Forgive my lack of posts this week... the overcast skies plus a cold cold house (we discovered our oil heat ran out!) has contributed to my lack of creativity and blogging.
Soon the sun will re-emerge (i think) and I will leave the house for an adventure.

Travis and I have scheduled a DSLR learning excursion at Rooster Rock for some mountain biking, photography, and fun.

Until then, swoon over these lovely finds on etsy!

califoregon

I love Jill Bliss, and her collab work with Brittany Powell is amazing! Their styles blend so well, and they focus on the places that they love.

Just this morning I was thinking about northern california and how it is much more aligned with the oregon/portland lifestyle rather than southern Cali. seems that they agree!
